Tami L. Waters
Principal
Tami was born and raised in Oshawa; and, after several years of practice in both Toronto and Oshawa, she is delighted to have brought her full-time legal practice back to her home town.
Tami received a Bachelor of Commerce degree in 1990 and a Masters in Education degree in 1992. She graduated with her LL.B. from the University of Windsor Law School in 2002 and was called to the Bar of Ontario in 2003. While a law student, Tami was the recipient of the Windsor Law Joseph Micallet Memorial Award for academic standing in the study of family law, and was very involved in the mediation public program operated by the law school where she first honed her negotiation skills.
Tami is a member of the Law Society of Ontario (LSO), the Toronto-based Family Lawyers Association and the Durham Region Law Association.
In 2014, Tami was appointed as a Dispute Resolution Officer (DRO) with the Superior Court of Justice in Oshawa. As a DRO Tami meets with litigants to examine their issues, explore settlement options, and assist with readying a file to go before a judge.
Tami is an avid golfer, and plays hockey. She remains delighted as her beloved NFL team the Cleveland Browns continue to amaze. Her favourite flavor of ice cream is Peanut Butter and Chocolate.
Patricia M. Swerhone
Associate
Patricia received a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) degree in Psychology in 1986, a Bachelor of Social Work degree in 1992, and a Masters of Social Work degree in 1998. Patricia graduated with her Juris Doctor (JD) degree from Osgoode Hall Law School in 2010 and was called to the Bar of Ontario in 2011. Patricia articled with a boutique civil litigation firm, participating in work with clients at the Superior Court of Justice, the Court of Appeal, and the Ontario Coroner.
Patricia’s academic and practical experiences in both social work and law is particularly suited to the practice areas of family law and child protection law.
Prior to the practice of law, Patricia acquired extensive experience as a senior policy advisor for the Ontario Government, as well as having worked as a social worker in the child protection system in several capacities, including direct service, foster care, and both domestic and international adoption.
Patricia is a member of the Law Society of Ontario (LSO), the Advocates Society, the Toronto Family Lawyers Association, and the Durham Region Law Association.
Patricia is a regular supporter of Boxer Rescue Ontario and her favourite flavour of ice cream is Tiger Tail.
Laura Stitt
Law Clerk
Laura graduated, with Honours, from Durham College with a Certificate in Legal Administration as well as having a Certificate in Dispute Resolution. She is an experienced law clerk who joined TLW law in November 2016.
Laura is a diehard fan of the NFL Pittsburgh Steelers, the arch rivals of the NFL Cleveland Browns, but she had the good sense not to mention this prior to being hired. Her favourite flavor of ice cream is chocolate.
Spenser Chalmers
Law Clerk
Spenser graduated from Durham College with a Law Clerk Advanced Diploma with Honours in 2010. He worked in the legal industry for ten years and as a family law clerk for seven years in downtown Toronto before joining Tami Waters & Associates in July 2020.
Spenser is an avid gardener and member of the Oshawa Garden Club. He is also a fan of the Toronto Blue Jays, which clearly demonstrates his ability to be patient in the face of adversity. His favourite ice cream is Bordeaux Cherry from Kawartha Dairy.

Betty does well to fill the boxer shoes of those who have come before her.
